Where was Steven Spielberg Born

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Jewish parents, pianist Leah Adler and electrical engineer Arnold Spielberg, Spielberg started being interested in film in his early teens. He made amateur 8mm adventure films and charged admission to his home films.

He later attended California State University, Long Beach; he had tried to apply to film school at the University of California School of Theater, Film and Television three times, but faied because of his poor grade average.

Steven Spielberg Career

Spielberg's career began when he offered to be an unpaid, seven-day intern at the editing department of Universal Studios. There, in 1968, he made his first short film for theatrical release, Amblin. This short film impressed Sidney Sheinberg, VP Production, who then made Spielberg the youngest director with a long-term deal with Universal Studios.

This movie was what propelled Steven Spielberg to the world stage and made him a multi-millionaire. Based on Peter Benchley's novel about a large killer-shark, the horror film was almost forced to shut-down due to budget issues and time delays.

Spielberg's perseverence paid off. Jaws won three Academy Awards and grossed $470 million worldwide, breaking all previous domestic box office records. 'Jawsmania' had taken storm of America, and Spielberg became a household name and a multi-millionaire.
