What are limiting beliefs?
Limiting beliefs are subconscious thoughts that subtly hold you back from your goals. You may not know that this limiting belief exists at all; it works through your subconscious and leads you to act in certain ways without you knowing why.
Self Limiting Belief
For example, if you hold the limiting belief ‘You have to work hard to make money’ or ‘It takes money to make money’, then these limiting beliefs will naturally become your reality. Even if someone introduces you to a novel way of making money that could very well lead you to financial freedom, you would reject it because your subconscious mind tells you to do so.
Limiting beliefs exert their influence in all aspects of your life: your career, academics, family, relationships, writing ability, speaking ability – every aspect of your life is subconsciously ruled by these limiting beliefs.
Clearing Limiting Beliefs
How do you change your limiting beliefs? By first recognizing that you have these limiting beliefs, and writing affirmations to the contrary. In order to recognize these limiting beliefs, simply think about what you usually say to others. When others ask you about why you are not rich, do you tell them that it takes hard work to become rich? Similarly, monitor your inner dialogue; practice monitoring your self-talk. Do you constantly tell yourself that ‘money is the root of all evil?’
Once you have recognized your limiting beliefs, create affirmations that reverse your limiting beliefs. For example, tell yourself ‘Money comes to me easily and frequently’; or ‘I have multiple sources of income that are flowing into my life right now’.
