Finding Meaningful Work
Finding Meaningful Work. How to discover your purpose in life and live a meaningful life.
Find Meaningful Work
At the most fundamental level, your purpose in life is your primary motivating factor. It is what drives you on when you run into obstacles and tests of your faith. Those without a life purpose lead aimless lives that seem to drag on meaninglessly, as day blends plainly into night and night blends into day.
Dealing with the Mid-Life Crisis: Meaningful Work
You have probably heard of the mid-life crisis. After the rush of adolescence and natural fervor of youth dissipates, a lack of purpose in life will create a growing void. After the children are grown up and life becomes reasonably comfortable, life takes on a different course. Instead of having to fulfill short-term obligations such as bills and credit card debt, you will have more and more time to wonder about questions such as, ‘What do I want to do with my life? What is there that is meaningful about my life?’ This growing void must be filled.
How to fill the void
All of us desire to make a difference in one way or another – be it in the lives of our children, our parents, those around us, fellow Americans, or even fellow citizens of the world. Meaning in our lives derives from the meaning we give to others. Instead of thinking about how you can help yourself, think about the people you can help most with your unique character traits, experiences and ability. The more you meaning you create for others, the more meaningful you would feel your life is.
Examples of Life Purposes
Here are some examples of other’s purposes in life from which you can draw inspiration:
- Jack Canfield – To inspire and empower people to live their highest vision in a context of love and joy.
- Mark Victor Hansen – To inspire my audience with wisdom that will make their world work
Or their Chicken Soup for the Soul series – To change the world, one story at a time.
Finding Meaningful Work
With a clearly articulated life purpose, you will find meaningful work to spend your time meaningfully and lead a meaningful life. On your epitaph it shall be written, ‘Herein lies ____, who ____’. Fill in the blanks – What do you want others to remember you for?
