In a landmark research conducted by Matthew Luckiesh, he found that these were the most readable chromatic combinations, in descending order of readability:

Black on yellow
Green on white
Red on white
Blue on white
White on blue
Black on white
Yellow on black
White on red
White on green
White on black
Red on yellow
Green on red
Red on green

Here are the slightly different results from research conducted by Paterson and Tinker. Again, these are the most readable chromatic relationships, by decreasing order of readability:

Black on white
Green on white
White on white
Black on yellow
Red on yellow
Red on white
Green on red
Orange on black
Orange on white
Red on green
Black on purple

Typography Design

Some important statistics you should note. Printing white copy on a black or gray background is a generally a bad idea. Reading black on white texts requires 42 percent less time than reading white on grey texts. White on black tends to make it difficult for the reader to get your ad message quickly.

Add Dropcaps

If your ad copy is longer than 250 words, start with a drop cap. This does wonders for your typography design. These disproportionately large characters attract the reader’s attention; they also convey an impression of class and style, which readers will associate with your product.
