Sample Press Release Template

Here are the most important items to include in a press release: your contact information (repeated several times throughout the press release), the release information (print in uppercase letters and underscore ‘FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE’ or ‘TO BE RELEASED APRIL 21, 2008’. However, setting dates may lower the probability of your getting media exposure, as the media would need to work around your timeline.

Headline of Press Release Here

Honolulu, HI, March 24, 2009 – Dateline and lead paragraph. Your lead paragraph is the second most important part of your press release. Make it powerful, interesting and likely to attract attention. Make sure it is not phrased just like another advertising message; phrase it in a way that clearly benefits readers, viewers or listeners in some way.

[Remaining of body text]

The single most important part of a successful press release is the headline. Editors receive thousands of PRs daily and if it is just another bland, common headline, your press release might easily get passed over. What are common headlines? A statistical fact, a statement that reveals part of the news, or a question. Complement your attention-grabbing headline with sub-headlines so your press release is easy to follow.

Sub Headline

[Remaining of body text]

Text information. This should be a few paragraphs long and tell your story in a highly succinct way. Answer the who, what, when, where, why and how – and consistently bear in mind that your purposes is to convince the editor why your information should be available to the public.

About Your Company

Include your boilerplate information here. This is a single paragraph that provides brief information and details about your company or organization. It provides other helpful details such as how long you have been in business, who owns the company, the number of employees, the number of branches – any information that you believe will support your news story.
